CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
Weather is back to normal yesterday. Clouds clear. So I went out quickly and tried to get some pictures using my new camera. Attached are the very first set of lunar pictures taken using my new camera.
Around 150 frames of 250frames stacked in Registax 4 . Processed only in Registax.
For this picture, I resample x2 & resized 75%
Mosaic of 2 pictures

I find there are lines in your photo.
Horizontal Lines? Those appear after stacking. As my mount is undriven, I have to capture the feature while it is traveling from one corner to another on the my computer screen.
After stacking, lines appear.
I don't know why I can't capture in avi format. So I capture with jpeg.
For the above picture, I have to take 7 group of pictures like 7 avi files for single picture. Put all together in folder & stack in registax.
I think I need to capture some more frames to get better & brighter picture.

the images may have been stretched as a result of perhaps from dim raws? yeah, try stacking more, or take when the conditions are better. Have the QHY5 for quite a while. It works very fine so far, but more for the use of autoguiding. Craig has written some fine code for PHDGuiding, been working like a charm. Have yet to try imaging with it yet, perhaps of the moon someday. Looking forward to more images from you soon!

Looking forward to see your moon pictures too.

you mean as in taking jpegs (250 individual jpegs) and then selectively stacked them resulting in certain regions of horizontal lines? Are u using USB2.0? If the inidivudal jpegs have these lines, it could be an issue with readout noise. I am using Tom's drivers, they seem more stable on my old PC laptop when used with the QHY5. However, it has been sometime since, perhaps some bugs might have been overcomed. The new Clavius region shot seems better (well exposed) but there are still the horizontal line artifacts present.

Hi,
Original pictures are too dark. I have to pull up a lot to make the picture visible.
Yes horizontal lines appear in raw jpeg when I capture in high gain mode. So I try to reduce the gain level as much as possible and capture with low gain level.
I think those likes appear also because of my processing method. New pictures taken yesterday got much better . Have a look.
