thanks jeff. i figured i'll need to get rid of the vignetting too... i'll try to use a gaussian blur emulated flat field frame too.
but i guess a good image needs to start from acquisition. so i'll try that too.
Horsehead Nebula
You can reduce the vignetting by using a scope whose illumination circle is wider. For the image processing situation, I find Croman's tool very effective.

Good effort but I think image is over processed already. The horsehead is no longer obvious in the picture. This effect is similar to those found in some of the point-and-shoot cameras in which the manufacturers use aggressive algorithms to remove noise from their images. Try to cut back until the horsehead becomes more define.
