Cloudy Nights Subscription Service

Post by Airconvent »

Hi
I was interested in this lab report on a 4 way fight between my Orion ED80 APO with the TV85, TMB80 and Nextstar80 but to my dismay, all their lab reports can only be accessed by subscribing to their service.
Does this mean that eventually, most reviews on cloudynights will no longer be freely accessible ? Sigh...

I noticed their paid subscription too. Do you know how much it is? If it is not too much, perhaps someone can subscribe under 'singastro' and let everyone access it under the 'corporate' account. :D

tink in future most good reviews will have to pay....

Just pay la..US$20 a year....not very expensive la. Consider it as a support for them to come out with better reviews.

By the way, pass me your email for some goodies.

Good news or bad news... astronomics has bought over cloudynights in order to compete with anacortes. As such the reports are free again.

actually I feel very cheated by cloudynights site.

When they first started, it was clearly emphasised that the site is not for profit. They even said that there will be no banner advertising. Many reviews poured in because of the good heart of many amateurs. I even contributed my Portaball review there because I thought it was a community for sharing

Then suddenly they started to accept banners. Then donations and stuff. And now, they sell off to astronomics for a profit.

They earned money through the good-will of the amateurs who were told that the site was not for profit in the first place. I even paid that $20 for the reports and now it's free.

BTW, where did they say that it was sold to astronomics??

Hi Vince,
It says that those who paid the $20 subscription will be credited back to you in any purchase you make from them..they're just not refunding direct...

Unfortunately, Astronomics does not ship out of the US...unless they have changed the policy or make an exception here.
