Milky Way at Sedili Besar

Post by jiahao1986 »

Just to share the only astro shot from my last trip to Sedili Besar. It was clouded out shortly after I finished setting up my gears, this one is the only shot I managed to take. Hope next time get better luck...

Sky transparency 7/10, Canon 5D Mark II with Sigma 50 f/1.4, 30s single exposure at f/2.0 and ISO 640...

Clear skies please...

Hey dude,

It was ISO 640. f/2.0 made this possible...

Hmm... I wonder why you didn't bump it up to ISO1600 or even ISO3200 since 5dMk2 has such low dark current and readout noise.
Clear skies,
Robin.

Actually 5D Mark ii's noise control not that good lah, ISO 800 would've get the perfect exposure for this, but a bit nosiy compared to ISO 640.

Did you shoot in RAW? I have seen very clean shots even at ISO1600. There is some pro-processing involved but not much.

You can compare https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... .687958520 and https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... .687958520, though they were not taken when the night was darkest. The images were obtained at Mt.Kinabalu.
Clear skies,
Robin.

I don't have Facebook account man, can't access the image... Anyways I'd go with relatively lower ISO, smaller aperture and longer exposure if I have tracking. The shot in the post is with tracking, otherwise 30s at 50mm will leave trails already.
Clear skies please...

Beautiful stuff! Nice composition of milky way rising just above the tree line.
