China made telescope

Post by pus88 »

Could anyone give me the ups if any and the downs of those china made telescopes? I'm not talking about those cheap looking refractors that are sold in hypermarkets but rather the APO's , 6" and above reflectors and refractors and also about the accessories that therey do from goto mounts to eyepieces. Would you buy a china made telescope with equivalent functions as a branded one yet cost cheaper? Would love to find out more from you guys.

China Made Telescopes

Post by kochu »

Why not, especially when you order a reputed telescope and the Packing Carton it self Prodly announces "MEADE Telescope -California" Made in China. I have 3 Meade telescopes and one Sky Watcher ED all Made in China ,fully, or partly there of.
I am yet to notice any critical flaw foreward of eye piece compared to the shortcomings behind it , I mean, that of "Yours Truly".

Hi,

There are different grade even for china made telescope. So it's depend on which brand and which series you are looking at.
Would you buy a china made telescope with equivalent functions as a branded one yet cost cheaper?
Why not?? Most good china scope will perform may be around 80% of those high end scope. The question is: are you willing to paid 50% or even 100% more for that 20% of improvement? Some critical observer or those doing imaging may need that 20% of improvement. It's just like cars... all cars carry people from point A to point B, but you can buys a lots of Toyota with the cost of a Ferrari... some may just buy a Toyota, but some willing to paid a lot more to get a Ferrari. So, it's all depend on individual and what are your requirements.

Just my S$0.02.

Have a nice day.

Hi there,

My name is Robin and I'm a telescope dealer and an Astronomical Equipment Consultant, the "Ang Moh" don't make much telescopes nowadays, those scopes in the market were mainly from these three manufacturing countries ie; China - SW, Vixen - Jp & China, William Optics - Taiwan & China. Takahashi - Japan...etc

Now, China is the biggest OEM telescopes manufacturer in the world, unless you wanted to spend up to SGD 15,000 for a 4" APO OTA "A.P" from USA, which I don't see why that a China made SW APO 4" can't do the same job, we're not the high end Pro. Astronomers after all, with the $ can be well spent on a Tak 106N with EM200 Mount, with these fittings, you can enoy professional view & imaging for a life time. The Tak complete set is only about $17,000, so please don't be prejudice against China Made products, we can now enjoy astronomy were mainly due to a lower price tag...don't you think so?

Most telescopes are made in China. Even Celestron telescopes, from what I have read are now mostly made in China; in the past they were 'Made in USA'.. For most of us, China telescopes are good enough. Most importantly they are very affordable and their quality has improved over time.

If you are new to this hobby, it would be good to buy a China telescope first before embarking on 'premium' scopes. The reason is the difference between premium and non premium is probably not that visible to people new in the hobby and without enough experience and knowledge. This hold true to many other hobbies..
