Photography ethics

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Photography ethics

Post by chrisyeo »

Hi..

Want to share this image of Orion and Taurus taken with my digicam from a mountaintop in the philippines..

Image

But this is not the original image. I took a daytime shot of the mountain top and pasted and adjusted it to look as if it was taken at night.

The orginal image looks like this. My question is: do you think it is ethical ? :) :) Which do you prefer? The original or the 'doctored'?

Cheers,
Chris

The first picture looks nicer ... :) If you think of photography as an art, there isn't anything to stop you from doctoring your images digitally - it's all part of the creativity process. That's my opinion .. :)

I'm more interested to know the how you took the sky image though. :)

If in doubt, declare it.

Like when I used the DSS images to do my Abell and Caldwell posters, I will credit it below.

Some even go as far as to label 'Processed image by...'.

hi chris,

i like the first one, it feels more aesthetic like there's a slight (weak) illumination by the moon or some light pollution source.
I thnk it should be ok if you include some notes about acquiring the final image.

Hi,
I also prefer the first image. Look nicer with the visible mountain.
My question is: do you think it is ethical ?
I think it's ok to composite this type of pictures as long as you make a note that this is a composite image.

Anyway, we do it all the time when processing astro images...

Have a nice day.

It is at the bottom right corner, the V shape is right in between the mountains.
