What are your favourite Astro objects?

Post by Canopus Lim »

Hi people,

Perhaps we can talk about our favourite astro objects.

My favourite kinds of astro objects are star clusters (globular or open) especially ones that have MANY MANY stars and ASTHERISMS in the clusters. I just like to see many stars that's why I am in the ultrawide field eyepiece camp. haa.

I like to see galaxies, nebulae too but star clusters are my favourites also because they can be seen easily in spore and they are rather distinct from one another other. For example in M44, there were actually many astherisms of stars that form it.

This year I have sudden liking of planets mainly because of my telescope. Therefore I find that I spent most of the time looking at moon and jupiter but also because there is not really much chance to see all those DSOs given the haze and weather. I am waiting for Saturn but it still needs months before it is visible at a better time.

Lastly, the most welcome astro objects are meteors. I like to see those meteors that are orange-yellow with smoke tails. I never get bored of seeing meteors. :)

I love planets, especially the one with visible rings!

I also love nebulae cos they look so beautiful, open clusters cos they're pretty, globular clusters cos they are challenging.. I don't like galaxies cos i never seem to be able to find them.. haha. If i do then i'll like them too!

Hmm. what else did i miss? i like the moon too, and meteors and meteor showers and asteroids and comets.

Eh, i think i can summarise the above: i love everything
Stargazing ... is an excuse to stay up past bedtime that never fails!

Nebulae... they provide different views via different wavelengths, and they change over time. Each time I look at them, I see something different!

Are you referring to Lim Chu Kang cemetery's green "nebulae"?

Actually all the objects 'change' over time.. haa. When the clouds come, dims the objects or the objects cannot be seen. When the haze comes, galaxies and nebulae cannot be seen but stars can be seen. Atmospheric seeing also varies over time every second and certain details on planets can be seen at certain time over the night. :P

Eeeeee......

I wonder if a OIII filter will show the "nebulae" that we otherwise could not see?

the sun!
even at its minimum now. it still changes almost daily.
it's less (slightly) dependent on weather!
not affected by light pollution!
it's big!
i dream of owning a herschel wedge and a coronado h-alpha filter...

I love the MOON, be it full, half or crescent!!! Hence, when others are "*&^%$#@" over the clouds and bright moon light, I still get to enjoy view of the moon..

And my other favourite, the clusters + the bright double stars! Hmm... Meteors too! BIG BIG FURY meteors!! 8-)

I prefer to see nebulaes in the form of photos... they look too blur and colourless thru a scope.
