Uncooled and cooled darks of 500D

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Thanks to a bro for giving me his priceless peltier cooler box,
i was able to "power up" my Canon 500D.
Below are the darks taken at 1600iso 10mins

so far tested on site is around 9 degrees lowest. The box came with a port for blowing and sucking dry air that was pump thru a drying agent pump that is complimentary from the bro too, and its directed to the sensor area. Tested no condensation problem To go lower would mean a bigger peltier and bigger heatsink and bigger fan and higher consumption ba....

I love the box!

Very nice! The cool air at Punggai should cool it even further! :)

Looks like your newer breed of canon cam responds better to cooling than my good old 350D. Way to go Bro, must have collected a wealth of darks by now, lol. [smilie=victory.gif]

well done bro! a suggestion though: the improvements in cooling could be made more obvious (through the reduction of specific noise structures like colour, lesser hot pixs, etc) if both dark samples could be equally stretched... it would be interesting to see how much for example colour noise has been reduced. Did noticed during last session's quick processing that the cooled light frames had substantially lesser colour noise.
