M8 and IC1275 mosaic: A different look at a familiar nebula

Post by rcj »

Hi all,

Everyone has seen the Lagoon, and am familiar with its renditions. Here, am currently experimenting with new methods to highlight the intricate dark absorption dust lanes surrounding the region as well as the infamous Bok globules within the core of the nebula. There is also the lesser known reflective components surrounding the peripherals of M8 and its vicinity. Have included here a multi scale processing look to the region inclusive of the Little Snake area (IC1275).

Its surreal, Remus...But I would not have guessed that is the M8 if you had not told me. That's a very different look for a familiar object ! :)

thanks Kochu, JW, Richard.

Yes, doing mosaics help to yield a bigger FOV yet at the same time preserve the resolution and detail on the host objects, but it's a fair bit of processing time required too, harmonising the colours of the various panels, etc. This particular mosaic is "just" 2 panels. I have a 4-panel mosaic project in the works but that will need more time to churn out.
