CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
Sharing with you my recent experience.
Since there is light everywhere in Singapore, I gave up and resigned to imaging through the window at low altitude.
Naturally there will be considerable background gradient to deal with.
Took me 3 nights to gather 3.4 hr of RGB and Ha.
The result is quite acceptable.

It is how many people, less fortunate than you, got to look through it."

only 3.4hrs? Honestly, I am looking for to get a CCD SBIG mono, after I seen your image, now I have to change my thought and get a DSLR 60D, wow, its has very high QE and low noise, don't even require to cooling it. Very nice image.
Oh... before you dive into DSLR.
The image of Crescent was shot with QSI - Kodak 8300 chip.
Cool to minus 10 deg for this image. RGB and Ha, then stacked.
I given up DSLR already.
I use it for fun only. Not really taking AP with it.
In light polluted sky here it yield unsatisfactory result. A waste of time.
It is so noisy that to plate solve a DSLR image also a headache.
Most people, I guess use it as piggy back. Polar Align by their main imaging scope.
Beginner, next time please be more specific lah, last round I almost misled by you and wanted to sell off my Vixen GPD2 mount to buy a ZEQ-25 mount, lol ...
as my research on CCD, I know very well, in Singapore you can't get such a nice image with DSLR even not with my cold 0 deg DSI PRO II in just 3.4hr. so now actually it was QSI $$$$.
