CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

26 Apr 12 Morning Sun

Post by yltansg »

Hi,

Here are pictures of the Sun this morning.

Beneath the huge prominence is Sunspot 1459 and further after the two filaments is Sunspot 1465. Sunspot 1465 has developed a "beta-gamma-delta" magnetic field that harbors energy for X-class solar flares.

The close-up view of Sunspot 1465 is shown below.

Thanks Gary for helping with getting the image right :)

Here is an update on that huge prominence that I imaged on 26 Apr 12, 10 am.

According to spaceweatther.com the prominence erupted a few times. The following eruption took place about 4 hours after I captured the prominence (shown in my previous posting).

For your easy reference, I have linked up for a GIF image on the eruption of the prominence from spaceweather.com

P.S. - I am not sure if it is ok for me to include an image from another website, so moderators please help me out here. Thanks.

Hi Gary,

The animated GIF was from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory [smilie=happy.gif] . It recorded a massive cloud of plasma flying over the sun's southwestern limb.

Hi Superiorstream,

Please call me Alfred.

My second image was taken with a x3 barlow using the same setup (i.e. the SF50 H-alpha, single ethalon). Yes, I believe the SM90 would give me a nicer close-up view/image. Unfortunately the Astromart seller missed sending the blocking filter. I have actually bought the SM90 with a BF15 and a BF 30. The BF 30 will be used on my 127mm ED scope with a adapter plate to mount the SM90 filter. The BF15 will be used on the SM90 scope.

A picture of the recently acquired SM90 is attached below.

Image

This is my current workhorse - the Solarscope SF50 H-Alpha filter mounted on a Borg 76mm Achro.

Will post pictures taken with SM90 when I receive the BF 15 filter next week.
