For PSP owners: Stellarium will be ported over soon!

Post by Zephyrus »

Hey guys! I've always gotten the idea to get some PSP developer to help port Stellarium over to PSP so we can bring our PSP out for astronomy. I've recently contacted Greg, owner of PSP-Hacks.com to help me find a developer who can do so, and offered a small token/prize for the program to be ported over to the PSP format. And since Stellarium has a Linux source, it's not that hard. I've just received a response from Greg this morning, telling me that a friend of ZX-81 is willing to pick up the project and is really enthusiatic about it. There's no available ETA at this moment, but once it is released, I'll update you guys about it. I'll be offering him a $50USD reward upon completion of the project as a token of appreciation.

Now we can finally look forward to getting our favorite planetarium software on the PSP! It'll be more portable than ever on the PSP! (:

Haha, get one then! It's pretty cheap nowadays, at $200 or so.

correct me if I'm wrong, but the screen is quite bright normally. Can it be turned out drastically? Otherwise it will be sure way to kill dark adaptation!
In places like mersing, the newer phones are a pain. I use an old dim screen Nokia 6510 instead (which broke down 2 days ago due to broken switch...sigh)

You can always add a feww pieces of red cellophone paper on it. Cheap and efficient method, same for all other lighting system

PSP has 5 level of brightness control, furthermore, if the writer port everything over, then the night mode (red color display) will be ported too.

Yup, exactly. The PSP screen backlight can be set to the lowest brightness level and we can always turn on the night mode. I'll contact the coder soon, so that I can get him to code all the features regardless of the output size of the application. I don't mind a large filesize "Stellarium Portable", as long as it has full functionality as the Windows version. Anyone who has any ideas can post them here, so I can relay it on to the coder. (:

Kudos to you and the coder! This is a really great idea. Hope it will come true as soon as possible.

Yeah, it should work on a homebrew-enabled PSP Slim. So far, I've been unable to get in contact with the coder because even Greg (PSP-Hacks.com) doesn't have his contact. I'll find a way though, so do wait for the good news! (:
