XO-2 exo planet

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

XO-2 exo planet

Post by JY »

Hi,

Just in time before the haze set in and after several showers on the same day, I finally managed to capture over two hours of data and the beginning of transit of an exo planet (XO-2).

Somehow I cannot link images into the messages ... here is the final result:

Image

The transit start was anticipated for 23:22 Singapore time, friday night.

Here is the target:

and the imaging setup:

I'll make a webpage explaining the choice of target, parameters and settings to do such a project.
Next in line is another candidate better located for imaging a complete transit... in a few months time ... hopefully we will not have haze this year ...

Cheers

Hi,
I cut and paste your image tag and post it using IE 7 and it does display the image. Below is the result:

Hi,
I edit your post and I think I found out the reason already.

You had checked the "Disable BBCode in this post" option. Don't check it next time you post or uncheck it if it checked by default.

Have a nice day.

All "educational" observatories in Singapore please look at this post. This can be a project that the "white elephants" can do.

Impressive. Up one for JY who is doing real science.

JY, maybe you could do some averaging. Instead of plotting absolute magnitude, you could bin and average the data to remove fluctuations caused by turbulence.

Thanks and yes: that's just the raw results, I will take some time and gather/plot/calculate the results.

There is also an interesting variable in the same star field with a period of just below one hour ... a nice sinusoide fits the data ...

I guess I'll have an update in a webpage within a week,

Cheers
