Hi,
Anyway, just wonder is this fairchild Imaging CCD 595 the largest single CCD out there: http://www.fairchildimaging.com/product ... cd_595.htm
- 9216 x 9216 full frame CCD array
- 8.75µm x 8.75µm pixels
- 80.64mm x 80.64mm image area
Have a nice day.

Hi,
No la.. do my programming until so "sian"... ha ha ha

Anyway, getting off-topics one more time with this interesting camera:

somehow suddenly feel i am dragged into this topic of large chip ccds....anyway just for a feel of current consumer prices...the KAF39000 monochrome can be had for USD$19000 as of 2007 pricing. It might be slightly lower in 2008. SBIG will definitely be coming out with larger chips at lower prices, but i think the issue is not in getting the biggest chip possible for as little money. It is the spill-over effect that affects telescope design as well....and whether one can find big enough imaging filters (and tacking further challenges like uniformity of anti-reflective coatings, internal reflections), focuser design (we need even bigger focusers!). You might be curious to know that even the current STL11000M offered by SBIG has vignetting based on its current body design. To experience complete retrieval of the imaging photons, one would require a bigger adapter. And ultimately, it would also lead to the challenge of finding a valid optical design that can provide the field flatness good enough for these big chips.
