New comet: C/2008 C1 (Chen-Gao)

Post by rcj »

Although this new comet discovery is currently not a very bright one, it is interesting to note that it is discovered by the Chinese - Tao Chen, and Xing Gao just this early Feb. It is expected to reach perihelion in mid April, and predicted to reach maximum brightness of 11.8. Nevertheless for those with big dobs and newts, you could try finding this little fella.

Thanks for the tinker, Remus.
If we factor in the wrong way the West always calls Chinese names, my guess the discovers should be Chen Tao and Gao Xing.
Mag 11.8 is pretty dim though....
