CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
Hi all,
This is the most difficult object I had imaged so far. Initial attempt with light pollution supression UHC filter nearly ended in failure. I can hardly extract much details even when the camera sensor had reached saturation.
I had more success with narrowband filters, especially with OIII, but required much longer exposures.
Imaging info:
Ota: TV Genesis SDF
Camera: Canon 350D ( modified & cooled )
Mount: Losmandy GM8
Exposures: 10 X 10 Minutes ISO1600 H-alpha
10 X 10 Minutes ISO1600 OIII
8 X 3 Minutes ISO1600 UHC
This is a very difficult object to image. I have tried it once but failed. Looking at your encouraging result, I'll try to image it next time the sky clears.
BTW, you cooled camera worked great. The noise level is so low for a 10mins shot.
That means you used UHC as red channel? OIII as green channel and H-alpha as blue channel?
Not quite, I not into mapped colour yet. Just blend them naturally, Halpha as red, OIII for the blue green and UHC as white light to normalize the star colours. Still experimenting la....
