The band is caused due to the tuning effects from the two tuning knobs on the two etalons. While trying to find the greatest contrast and feature, the bright band will shift. When both etalons are tuned properly, the whole sun will look bright as a whole. This is why when two etalons need to be stack, COronado requires owners to send in their first etalon back to factory to find a matching second etalon. I also discovered that the order which the etalons are put together also makes a huge difference. I tried once, and the Sun was extremely dark, no matter how i tune the etalons.
