1st Mars Image

Post by Meng Lee »

Hi all,

Very modest picture of Mars taken on 23rd Dec around 11pm. Yes, the stars are twinkling like mad. The seeing is very bad. Used RRGB method.

Image

Features seen:
Amazonis
Mare Sirenum
Mare Acidalium
Aurorae Sinus

Will try again when seeing is better.

Hi,

Yes, after checking Mars maps, indeed this bright spot is Mount Olympus. You can verify by checking the Mars maps around 11pm 23rd Dec.

Thanks for spotting it.

Oh yes, Moon and Mars will be very near !

Hmmm, the 1.6% impact, if it occurs, will need to stir up dust and cover a few hundred kilometers then its within my range of capturing it.

Hmm probably I may have a chance to increase the resolution in a few weeks time.

Merry Christmas.

A more colour balanced one. Using R(G)B method.

Erm, I am not too sure of mars features also. I got the info from Sky and Telescope website's Mars Profiler.
