M42 - Narrowbands

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

M42 - Narrowbands

Post by cataclysm »

Hi all,
The sky opened up long enough on 13 Dec to allow some decent imaging time. The beloved orion is back, and this time round I had a go at it with the narrowband filters. Regrettably, I decided not to cool the camera for faster setting up ( not sure how long the freaky sky will remain clear ), limiting my exposures to no longer than 5 minutes. As you will be able to observe from the pictures below, narrowband filters will greatly benefit from loner exposures. The pictures were presented in the manner from H-Alpha, follow on with OIII, then a blend of both Ha & OIII and finally a composition of Ha,OIII& colour exposures.

All the pictures were captured with my trusty Genesis SDF & Canon 350D.
10 X 300S @ ISO800 / Baader 7nm Halpha
9 X 240S @ ISO800/ Astronomik OIII
11 X 180S @ ISO 800 / Astronomik UHC
5 X 40S @ ISO800/ Astronomik UHC
5 X 20S @ ISO 200 / Astronomik UHC
