Ok, I'll be there from 9PM onwards with a small scope. Not sure what time the observatory closes but hoping to get a view of saturn through their 15" refractor.
Did SSC have a new scope? I remembered they have a 16" Classical Cassegrain with a 6" apo finder. :)

Hi,
Not sure what time the observatory closes but hoping to get a view of saturn through their 15" refractor.
I heard that it close at 22:00. They don't have a 15" refractor la... :P They had a 16" Cassegrain reflector and a 6" APO refractor on the big dome and I think a C11 and Questar 7 in the smaller observatory.

Anyway, I think the 6" APO and the Questar 7 may show a better Saturn if view before 22:00.

Have a nice day.

Seems like Singastro is finally alive again after the evil monsoon!!

I activated at Toa Payoh for the saturn opposition today too, after so long without seeing any stars (ok, other than while getting a headache at work)..

I see chee chien also held another ob group activation at his delta avenue. That makes 3 activations on one night - is that a record?! :D

So anyway for Toa Payoh, in came fengling (fl), andrew, andrew (kamiru), eric (dunnowhat-singastro lurker), and clifford. So this makes one of the biggest Toa Payoh ob group has gotten so far! Come to think of it, if i'm gonna sms so many ppl every activation my handphone bill will go bust

Saturn was a nice sight to see after a long drought of starless nights. We went 47x through my mct127, saw 4 moons around it, and the nice ring. however, i think the air turbulence is too big and i can't see the cassini division at this magnification. But when i use a 9mm ortho, giving about 150x, the division looks quite clear. The 4 moons around it were also very apparent. However, the planet moved too fast for so many people to see at once, so we had to take turns quickly.

Eventually we moved on to other things as well, capturing the usual M42, M41, and a nice ngc 2516 near the false cross. Eric took a number of exposures on his dslr, and i'm hoping he posts some here soon! Finally we went back to saturn, played with it for awhile, then packed up and left about 1230am.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, i think it's relevant to the saturn opposition because this activation is also mostly about saturn. It feels great to see so many activations going around singapore now, because i think it gives the newbies alot more chances to join where they are nearer to. :)

Great night at the Science Centre..

Managed to catch Saturn through the cassegrain. There were many school students and I met Siva, Weixing, Remus, Sam, Mike, Kenneth etc.. Missed Weixing though.

Happy viewing and clear skies!
