H-Alpha Imaging

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

First of all, I would like to thank the two gurus (Matthew and Remus) for clearing my doubt on the issue, making me much wiser now.
The Bayer configuration bought up by Matthew now cast a doubt on my decision to use DSLR for narrowband imaging. I would like to thank him for bring this to my attention. Although I was aware, it didn't cross my mind that it would impact the final image so much. Look like I'll have to dump my DSLR when taking narrowband imaging.
Now, it makes me wonder one thing. If it possible to take an image taken with Ha filter and one mega pixel CCD camera and combine it with a RGB shot using my DSLR? This would save me time compare to having to take three separate RGB images. Also don't have to spend more money the filters.

Hi perseid,
provided you are able to register the two images properly, I don't see why not. I have ever combined CCD and film images in the past before taking the luminance from CCD and combine with an RGB film exposure....but please bare in mind that you have to make corrective gradient removal measures and take care of incorrect star sizes.
