i agree about reading the sky talk! it took me awhile to find a starting point.. so for other budding astronomists.. this would be a good start to get their interest going!hlyf wrote:yeah i agree that the talks should cater to beginners in astronomy, and should be something practical that they can continue pursuing on their own after the event, like reading the sky or digital astrophotog, that spurs their interest and gives them an idea how and where to start learning about astro.. yeah just my 2c worth...

Gosh MooEy I am so sorry! I had intended to ship the 32mm plossl and polarizing moon filter to Richard together with the rest of the consolidated US shipment. I sent out the parcel today but I forgot to include these 2 lucky draw items! I still intend to donate them for the lucky draw but the winners will have to wait till after I return to Sg in Apr 2006 to collect their items. Given this situation, I will let you and Chris decide if you still want to offer it as a lucky draw prize. My apologies! :oops:MooEy wrote:just got a donation from kayheem, thanks for the support.

Hi,
To people donating to the lucky draw, just want to note that the lucky draw is only for the volunteers, namely people from Singastro, SP and RP who have helped out in the event. It is kind of a reward for them.
Let's see if there are enough prizes to make a draw worthwhile, if not I guess we'll have to scrap the idea. No point waiting till April to get the main prize I think.
CC: No prob.
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Qs, Tachyon,
It can't be helped if it rains, but please keep your fingers crossed.
In event of wet weather, the viewing of Mars of course cannot proceed, but everything else will still go on as planned. The venue will be shifted slightly to a covered area; just follow the signs and the ushers.
Cheers,
Chris

astronomy FAQs
Dear All,
This is an open request for clubs who might wish to contribute by putting together informational pamphlets:
This is an open request for clubs who might wish to contribute by putting together informational pamphlets:
One of the objectives of Mars Watch 2005 is to introduce astronomy to those who are new to it. In this regard, I would like to ask if your club is interested in designing informational pamphlets for the beginner Singapore astronomer.
These FAQs can be on any topic you choose, but they will have to fit on one or two sides of an A4 sheet. You can refer to the attached pamphlet for an example. Some possible topics include:
1. Where to buy telescopes in Singapore
2. What are M objects
3. What is great about astronomy
Basically anything that somebody new to astronomy may wish to know. You may make use of faqs that exist online and then design it to fit on an A4 sheet.
The added benefit is that once you design these pamphlets, they can be reused again and again. They can become part of the Singastro website.
Please let me know if you or your club are willing to try your hand at putting something together. Let me know your suggested topic before you begin in case others are also doing the same thing (first come first serve basis). Email me at chrisyeojs@hotmail.com. To be able to print in time the pamphlet must be emailed to me by Sat 22nd Oct.
