EAA: Carina nebula with poor man's h-alpha

Last night the sky was not so cloudy from my HDB kitchen window. I can see the sounthern cross which is a good sign.

Still I got so amazed at the number of stars this cheap setup showed.


Toying with histogram.


Captured some then greyscale after some tweaks.


Camera: RS224 from aliexpress
Lens: 25mm f1.4 cctv c-mount lens from ebay
Poor man's h-alpha (stacked cheap filters):
- UHC filter
- Red filter (does not even have wratten number)
- IR/UV cut
All from ebay, connected to lens by duct tape
Mount: modified bike flashlight holder on window grills
Software: Sharpcap for live stacking on Surface Pro 1

Experimented with 8s, 4s, 2s exposure time stacked till around 10minutes.

I had difficulty figuring out a balance between the blue/red parts of the nebula and the red background. This object might be better with IDAS D2 filter.

Last night live stacking at home of orion nebula using
50mm f183mm guidescope.
Camera RT244
Filters: Uhc + uv/ir + red
Software: Sharpcap free version



It caught a passing plane somehow:

Managed to make pc-control of nexstar slt mount work.
It drastically makes object location easier, whew.
In one night just on one side of sky (east) via window i managed to locate a lot mostly globular clusters.
Milky way (where many object are located) is even barely accessible that night.
Some nebula found.

70mm f300mm (stopped at 40mm) toy telescope (modified).
RT224 camera.
UHC or PoorMansHAlpha filter.
Sharpcap software for live stacking.
Nexstar slt mount controlled using Cartes du Ciel software.
