Hi all,
It has been sometime since we had full scale day-night events for Astronomy here in this country. We had ASTRONOMY 2008 back in 2008, NParks event in 2010, and some EQUIP-FEST events in yester-years. Perhaps it is time (or is this possible) to have another event to be organized here in Singapore soon? This year? Next year?
Venus Transit 2012 in June may be a good time to co-host such an event?
Lunar eclipses 2011 this year (June may be too soon? December?)
Or should we just stick to stargazing sessions? Or are they enough?
If we have something like A2008 again, just like to see how many are keen to help to kickstart? Venue suggestions? etc...
It might be time to have such an event to connect with the astronomical community once again, catch up, and welcome newbies, educate the public on astronomy, etc....
Clear Skies!

Another Major Astronomy Event in SG?
I think Pulau Ubin will not be a highly feasible idea as the place is located at a far flung sector of SG. This astronomy events are usually targetted at the public and general audiences, thus as such, it would be better if the location were to be at an area easily acessed by public transport.kensou wrote:How bout a trip to east side? pulau ubin or pasir ris/east coast anywhere? fri/sat weekend 7pm-7am? a public event? want to publicise abit around the net? Telescopes showcases and astrophotography showcases..? haha
Something like the bedok reservoir event will suffice. Cheap, low budget, whereby the passerbys can just join in for a look
It might to be far in for pple to travel there. The folks we can reach will most prob be kite flyers or dating couples.
If light pollution is not much of an issue (since we already have it in the heartlands), we might want to have it at the padang. Plenty of space and easy for people to go there and for us as well.

Seems like we're kinda fixed on just the stargazing component. Any exhibition/other stuff like A2008 or SingastroFest2004? Coinciding with an astro event is good, but probably not required.
I have a fun (and crazy) idea - we can do a day's worth of solar ob flash-mob style. If we've got enough volunteers and cars, we can search for a few heartland ob sites that can see the sun, and "appear" there for say, an hour or so. After that, we'll pack up and move on to the next site. We can space this out so that we reach all corners of Singapore. This will create a pretty good stir around (especially if we stomp ourselves
). This can culminate in a final night/overnight ob in a place where we can reach most people (Padang or ECP or somewhere). The stir we cause in the day would probably attract enough people to bring their families to the night ob ground.
That's just a rough idea - we can iron out the details if enough people are interested.
Btw, if we wanna do any event, I can only join if we hold it before August this year..

Stargazing ... is an excuse to stay up past bedtime that never fails!
