Yo yo... Dear friendly members of this forum....
I just bought my first telescope Powerseeker2 70 this afternoon from AstroScience.
It is just beside it. i love it~ Finally starting my dream~

Anyway~ i just installed the software and look through the instruction manual.
It seems like i having problems already. With 3x Barlow lens and 20mm eyepiece, i cant see anything~ Without any eyepiece, i can see some stars out there...
Still not sure how to adjust the finderscope and the main scope yet~

Mayb pros can instruct me or better lets hold a OBS soon~! LOLx.. Just kiddin~

i'm jus a super beginner as well..but here's a bit of tips from me..

it's actually realli easy to align ur finderscope.

first aim ur telescope towards a far away object..say a lamp post light. then u turn the little knobs on the finderscope holder to move the + of the finderscope such that the lamp post light lies in the centre of the +..there u have it, the finderscope is aligned..

as for the 3 x barlow lens, i think u can keep that, dun think u'll ever use it..it provides too high a mag for the 70 mm aperture that is afforded by your telescope..maybe u can consider a good 2 x barlow instead, like the GSO models

maybe you can also consider getting a 32 mm plossl to get wider field of views

and for starters, take a quik peek at the hyades. it should be around the "top" of the sky now..it's moving down towards the west. look for a bright orange star and aim ur scope around there

With yr 20mm eyepiece and a 3x barlow you're pushing this scope near 50x per inch.

mayb it's too much to ask... i wanna know can i reach Crab Nebula, just to name? or those famous Nebulas... Hehe~

Hi,
Must the finderscope and the main scope be aligned also?
Yes. I think the manual will tell you how to align the finder and the scope. Follow tungkian instruction and your finder will be aligned to the scope.
how much can my 70mm scope reach? open cluster? globular cluster?
You should be able to see quite a number of brighter open cluster, brighter globular cluster and some brighter Nebula in Singapore.

Crab Nebula.... Mersing, should be yes... Singapore, it'll be hard even you got a much larger aperture, so forget about it.

You can try the following easier object: Orion Nebula (M42/M43), M41, M45, M46, and M47 Open Cluster first.

Happy observing and have a nice day.

congrats on your new scope! tungkian is right. Do NOT use the Barlow for finding stuff. Always use low power first and if you want to magnify, use the barlwo later. However, this one seems to push your scope a little too much, so I guess its better to keep it for mersing!
The first time is always a little daunting but no worry. Simply drop by Tampines and join weixing for his Tampines CSN (Clear Sky Network) and he can show you. Or bring your equipment to science centre and tomorrow night and let the experts there trach you too...
