Hi Guys,

Other then the name difference, what are the key features for Orion and Skywatcher scope? Questions like:

-Where are the scope made, assembled?

-Good selling point of their product vs points that are not so favourable but can be improved on? Assuming we are comparing a similar model, "apple for apple".

-Any other unique qualities.

Cheers
Ivan

Hi,
"Skywatcher" is the registered trademark of OEM manufacturer Synta Optical Technology corp. Orion, Celestron and some other brand telescope also get their scope from Synta and re-brand it. That's why you won't find Sky-Watcher brand telescope in US.

From my experience (my refractor is my third 3 Sky-Watcher telescope... 1 x MCT, 1 x Newtonian and 1 x Refractor :P ), I find their optical quality is generally quite good. But the finishing on those small area on the scope is not so good... I think this is where they save their cost. You can't expect good optics and good finishing at a low cost... somewhere had to compromise to keep the cost low.

Have a nice day.
