Planisphere

Post by fizzy123 »

Hmmm...... I noticed tat most planisphere programs do not cater for equatorial region, they only have 30 degree north and above, but why?  Is there any particular reason for tis? Can a 30 degree planisphere be used for Singapore.

One simple reason: Small market. Most country that are very active in Astronomy, such as US, UK, Japan, China & etc, did not locate near equator.
Can a 30 degree planisphere be used for Singapore.
Should be able to use, but it is very difficult to use and some part of the sky is not shown and you need to manually offset the constellation position.

Have a nice day.

Actually, planispheres for equatorial regions are available. You just have to work hard to find them. I believe that Perseid telescope were selling a really excellent set during Singastrofest 2005. I also have one got off the net.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for the link, hlyf.
I didn't even know Wee Kiong had a website!....
Perhaps he should add it to his signature? And yes, I do recall him selling some planispheres in the past now that you mentioned it.

Hi,

Most planispheres don't have DSO on it. Can you imagine what will happen to Virgo/Coma Berenices/Leo constellation if you just put the M objects in that region in the planispheres??? You can't see anything else... Ha Ha Ha :)
mm...i thought Albert from the Science Centre has instructions to make one in one of his books?
I saw his prototype planispheres for singapore use... quite nice. Just wonder when will it be ready???

Have a nice day.

hmm physical space's one has a couple of dsos... some labeled like M42 and M45 others just dotted circles e.g. around scorpius/ sagittarius region.. but i think it's just a rough guide, tell u where the constellations are, dsos need to use a more detailed chart..
