that's in 6 years kingkong, the next venus transit is 2012. After that.. i guess we have no more chance of seeing the venus version of the transit in our lifetime anymore.. :(

The Venus Transit, absolutely cannot miss it, even though I have seen the one in 2004. For the 2012 one, I think there will even be live shows on TV considering its rarity

well... june 2012 is technically less than 6 years... but nvm...

don't worry about not seeing another venus transit after 2012 ourself... as long as our great grandchildren can still see it, it's good....
at the pace we are going that may not happen!
did our forefathers foresee that 100 years from them light pollution is so bad that their great grandchildren don't know what a starry night sky looks like?
will our species survive another hundred over years after 2012 to witness another venus transit? will our atmosphere be covered by a thick layer of smog we can't see the stars, nor the sun? what will global warming do to earth over the next 100+ years? there are so many challenges that we still don't have anwers to.

Anyway, Lily, in another 5 years, your son would not be able to tell if it was the sunspot or mercury shadow that he saw!
Next time we will will try to look at it long enough to see its movement!

BTW, we managed to watch the recording of Mercury transit on the TV in the evening so we didn't miss much.

Zong, hope your scope is ok. Just read about the possible damage the sun might cause.

Hi All ! There are some pictures from VietNam.
Didn't have Solar filter, we took the pictures on a paper :D . ( telescope :Orion 90mm)
Mercury is very small, a little spot near the top. And have a big sunspot at the bottom.

The photo is very nice. For such a low sun, this is probably the most you can expect. Could you please provide some details of the photos?
