Maybe the talk or talks need not be on too advanced topics, since this event is catered for students and the public, who may be beginners. I would think the talk should not be measured by how esoteric or technical the subject is but rather how much the audience can absorb and enjoy the topic.

yeah i agree that the talks should cater to beginners in astronomy, and should be something practical that they can continue pursuing on their own after the event, like reading the sky or digital astrophotog, that spurs their interest and gives them an idea how and where to start learning about astro.. yeah just my 2c worth...
