monarch is pretty amazing, very sharp. 400 bucks seems like a pretty gd price. anyway, if u have that kind of budget, do take a look at the WO 8x42 ED as well. i think it goes for 300 bucks or so. small, lightweight, sharp!! give robin a call and check with him about the WO binos.

today was quoted $460 cash over the phone at Penisula Plaza Cathay Photo for the monarch 8x42 DCF. Not a good price. Went over to SLR Revolution at Funan and got the same pair with local warranty at $368 cash. Good service with good price.

I just saw the most drool-worthy binos ever at Canon @ Low Yat.. dunno how much they cost in SG. Canon 10x42L IS WP. 3999 RM!!! (comes out to be US$ 1210, compared to Amazon price of $ 1190. Almost the same and no shipping headaches.. but for US$ 1200 I'd rather find an LX-90 or C8 to buy..

as an add-on, Ed Zarenski from the binocularastronomy yahoo group has a very extensive review of binoculars. and it seems, expensive does not mean good (the Steiner 80mm's don't get good ratings).

i've always been interested in those Kunming Optics 15x70 being sold under the Astro-Physics brand, as a cheaper alternative to the Fujinon FMT-SX 15x70...

I have a pair of 12x50 Nikon Action binoculars. I think the ability to hold the binoculars steady varies with the person and the binoculars.

I am satisfied with this Nikon (and it has a tripod adapter too). It is better to sit down and with your arms close to your body, you can certainly handhold this binoculars.

With more magnification, everything seems bigger and you have reasonable FOV. I can never get tired of this pair when there is a clear night.

It is a pretty big and heavy though. You cant hold it continuously for too long. That's my only complain. Other than that it, I thought it was good value for the price.

I got it from the Malaysian photography internet shop, Shashinki for RM468 which is about SGD187. Not sure if I could have got it cheaper in Singapore.

actually hand shakiness varies a lot among individuals. it is possible to hold 12x50 binoculars and have a good view. I have a 15x70 binoculars which gives superb view but you need to rest your elbows on something.

in my opinion, with light pollution some extra magnification may be needed.

I saw it once at a PC Show many years ago. Ironically, it was at one of the retail vendor stall instead of the official canon stand. Unfortunately, it was locked behind a display cabinet.
