Managed to get my first view of Jupiter and its 4 moons early this morning just before the clouds moved in. At 150x I think I saw a band in the top half (i.e. it appeared in the bottom half in my telescope). Is this where the band is supposed to be located? Is there supposed to be another band which is missing?

There's supposed to be two bands, one up and one down. And for the longest time that's how it was... but now it isn't so.

Hi,bharat
Normally Jupiter has two prominent bands and in one of the band you find the Great red spot. Now,this band that house the great red spot turns white and virtually 'disappears';although if you look through a telescope that produces tack sharp image--like a Apo refractor--,you will see that it actually didnt all disappears but some coloured marks can be seen here and there, suggesting that this band may be just covered by some white cloud instead of disapppearing;but this very taught is enough surprise as Jupiter is a BIG planet and something producing such big cloud is indeed big!So lets enjoy this sight while its still there.
