CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Hi Remus,

I experienced the same "question marks" early this morning. It is ok again now. May be a Pbase linkage problem.

Hi superiorstream,

Thanks for your comments.

I have the double-stacked version. The pictures were taken with one front end etalon (0.7A). Single-stacked is good for surface details. I was told that double stacked is needed if I want to have prominences. So far, by adjusting exposure settings and post-processing settings, I am able to feature both prominences and surface details (to a fair quality) using a single etalon. I have also done some simple animated gif on prominences. Will post that later this evening.

Alfred.

Image

This was taken on 10 June this year over a period of 25 minutes. You can see the vertical column "feeding" the horizontal prominences with solar materials. Could have been even more spectular/interesting to see the dynamic changes if I had imaged it over a longer duration. First time I am doing an animated gif. It is still very crude - need more work to refine it :)

Enjoy

P.S. If pictures not embedded, try this http://i.pbase.com/o6/08/993808/1/13653 ... nences.gif

Hi,yltansg
Good to hear that you have the double stack. This will enable you to tune to 0.5A bandwidth and the view can be shocking sometimes. If properly tuned,a double stack will enable you to see MORE prominences than when you single stack;surface features on the sun like hotspots that dont show up on a single stack filter and also those canals of activities around sunspots wil show up on double stack. In fact, sometimes before a sunspot show up,the region will show up brighten on a double stack. However fine tuning is very very important and once you get that "sweet setting";mark it down.Remember, even up to now, after so many years,I must say that NO TWO PIC I HAD TAKEN OF THE SUN ARE IDENTICAL TO ONE ANOTHER.Thats the beauty of the sun and solar shooting.Enjoy.;and its nice to see someone join the solar obs.club.Your photo are good.Thanks.

Hi Superiorstream,

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I have used the 0.5A setting with great results :) I see the great work at your blog.
