Since we do want to attract a crowd, 8-9 pm will be the best time.

I suppose I can wring up some makeshift posters. That will make people more willing to come forward to view and ask questions. Posters will give information about Astronomy Day, Venus transit, Comets, and Singastro.

Sam Lee, is SP Astro club interested in helping out - poster, scope or people wise?

I can offer my etx90. I think it might be possible to get at least one more.

The only viable targets will be jupiter and saturn, but i suppose I could print out astro photos that people here have taken and would like to offer for this purpose.

I suggested Toa Payoh simply because I'm unfamiliar with other places. Any public square should seem fine. We can adjourn to do observing from a darker spot nearby after 9.30.

So,
1. Confirmation of at least one more scope.
2. More people interested in joining session?
3. Confirmation of venue.

Need more concrete advice from the 'seniors'. Thanks!

Cheers,
Chris

Hi,

Since it's quite a last minute thing, I think we should just keep it simple : just our scopes and some people. Posters and other extras etc... should only come in when public events like these have been subject to more proper planning.

For the same reason, I also do not want to give the authorities (or if we are lucky/unlucky ... the media !) the impression that all this was deliberately planned when we actually aren't that prepared - lack of standardization, lack of control and co-ordination measures etc.... Collectively, we would be representing 'Singastro' , so a lot of other issues will also come in - like the correct image we want to portray , do's and don'ts etc.. so for now, due to insufficient time for planning and co-ordination, we should just keep it simple and to seem like it's "another night out with our scopes" and just introduce Singastro, World Astronomy Day and the upcoming Venus transit as and when we have the chance to speak with people who come up to us.

(For the Venus transit, we really have to start proper planning soon if we have intentions of going public.)

Hi Chris, Sam
Just keep it simple and go with the flow. that's the best way. of course, do subtlely introduce singastro to them and let their interest take over.
I was thinking as what vince snr suggested earlier, the esplanade would be a better catchment for peope who have potential to take up the hobby....

Guys,

I will also join with my etx90. I couldn't get manfrotto yet, so I will get my normal tripod, and check if it can be useful.

I have used it see only the moon, since I bought last month. Good event to learn from you specialists.

The esplanade's a good idea.

But only three people have confirmed that they would be coming. Valmeeki, Samuel, and me. Quite dissapointing. Should we go ahead? Sam?

My HP is 96280048. If you need any information please contact me.

Cheers,
Chris

Ok, I was on the phone with Weixing a little while ago and he is looking into an alternative site at Tampines central for tomorrow evening. More updates on this later.

As of now, we have about 6 probable scope volunteers. Seeing that half of those interested in bringing their scopes out tomorrow evening all live in Tampines and considering also (more importantly) the generally younger population in Tampines, it may just be a better site for tomorrow evening's event. We haven't completely ruled out Toa Payoh yet, but if we get a favourable update on the Tampines site later, I don't mind bringing my primary scope setup all the way there instead.

Zong Yao, Soon Yen, Wei Kang : are you guys interested in helping out too ?

Shall we go ahead? May be others may decide join, w/o confirming.
