MOON! Warning: Do not stare at it for too long...

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Hi Mr Ng!

The focusing was basically trial and error too. Just pay attention to minute touch-like movements when you are very near focus. It pays to have good seeing too and steady fingers, so that you can nail the focus right. What I will normally try, is to take a set of data at a focus point and if possible re-take again at another focus point. It would be a boon to have a focuser that has fine increments as well, or a helpful device would be the Borg helical focuser (1.25") coupled with this form of web-cam imaging. If attempting this via DSLR, do check the image on the LCD screen at the highest possible zoomed up magnification, and spend some good time evaluating the best focus position. Sharp images require some time nailing the focus. Personally, I would still think that the above moon can be focused even better, if only the seeing conditions were improved!

Hi Tachyon,
Nice moon you have there, and you also stayed up! Interesting processed version that shows the ray system very distinctively together with the marias!!

Ok. Here is the higher res mosaic: 18 images taken using Orion ED 100 and ToUcam.

(Sorry - I tried to shrink the file and compress the pic but it still exceeds the 65kb limit. If you would like to see please PM me with your email address. Thanks!)

Hi,

Please note that the limit not only just the file size, it also include the image resolution.

Anyway, I think the admin had just increase the limit to 150,000B and 1076 x 768.

Have a nice day

btw, you may like to effectively resize a JPEG image for display in Photoshop under "Save for Web". You could "play around" with the various quality settings until you obtain a desired file size listed.

Hmmm, I don't know whether its what the image processing jargon calls it as " White point is a bit low and black point is a bit high" ? Hee, I am beginning to be confused by those terms already.

ML,
think what that means is constricted dynamic range...
