Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

That's not too bad for a 15-incher  considering its size and weight. I paid about S$600 for my portaball, via air-freight.

Your shipping of S$400 is more an exception rather than the rule. I do not know what freight forwarder you used but S$400 is really cheap. If you use USPS (United States Parcel Service) the cost will be more than S$1000 excluding GST. For courier USPS is already the cheapest. It is 'crazy' for UPS, FEDEX etc. I have once sent a small parcel (of a few grams) using FEDEX and the cost was like S$80; the item I think cost 1/4 the shipping cost. Even internally in USA, shipping of a large scope with courier amounts to US$100s.
Vpost la. Why go use all the UPS, FEDEX when you have Vpost? Support local!!

But that's before Vpost went up in price. However if you have UOB credit cards, you can get 12% discount now....

Of course Astrosky packed it quite compactly....so didn't end up paying for air.

Anyway, if use Vpost alot, can go buy Singpost shares and keep long term. When you get dividends from the shares, it is as good as getting back your Vpost charges ..hehehehe

VinSnr,

I used a freight forwarder to ship my scope so it cost about what ACC has paid for his shipping plus GST. Anyway, even if use VPOST, you would still need to ship the scope internally USA from the manufacturer to the VPOST address and that will cost a lot already (if by courier). How much did it cost you to ship the Astrosky to the VPOST address and by courier? Does the S$400 include GST?

Not sure what is the shipping price between Astrosky and the Vpost site. He didn't charge me for it. Probably becos I told him domestic ground shipping is fine with me. it took about a week to reach the Vpost office and another week to reach me. But I am in no hurry to get the scope.

yeah ..the 400 already with GST.

Anyway as I said...go buy some singpost shares to buffer the raising prices of Vpost. At least get back something. And I don't think singpost will ever close down.

After I read about high shipping cost to Singapore, I have to say that my shipping prices to Singapore, for the sended Telescopes, was very low in comparison. So I have sended allready a 150/2040mm classical Cassegrain in a wooden box to a client in Singapore, where the weight was somewhere to 20kg for under 80 Euro.
Another telescope I have sended to Singapore, was a smaller Mak-Cassegrain where the shipping cost was under 70 Euro :)

That's me. It's my favourite scope and I won't sell it! :) I was glad the shipping cost from Germany to Singapore was not as high as I had expected.

If I use VPOST, I have to pay 2 freight charges, within US and Vpost. Furthermore, UPS is only 5 days, which means less chances of damage during transit.
