CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Tough shots under sub-optimal condns

Post by Mariner »

Finally had an opportunity to carry on with my practice despite really poor skies. The turbulence was quite bad but I managed to squeeze out these shots. Fired off some shots of Jupiter, Mars and the galaxies M104, M86 and M87. However, I am really frustrated with Deepsky Stacker and can't really produce decent stacked shots nor convert them to any format other than TIFF. These are the pictures I can post up for now, all shot with my trusty Canon 40D (non-modified). Images tweaked for contrast and brightness only and cropped for presentation.

Jupiter. Prime focus C9.25 with 4x Powermate. Exp 1/10s

Mars. Prime focus C9.25 with 4x Powermate. Exp 1/15s

M104. Prime focus C9.25 with F/6.3 R/C. Exp 30s unguided

It is how many people, less fortunate than you, got to look through it."
