Taking picture with a Canon DSLR connected to Orion ST80

Post by vil »

Hi all,

May I know what do I need to buy to connect my DSLR to the above mentioned telescope? I believe it is some kind of adapter. Intend to get it online.

Thank you very much.

Hi,
There are various method of doing so, do you mean prime focus?? In prime focus, your telescope act as a lens and connect directly to your DSLR. You'll need the below item:
1) T-Adapter: This adapter will insert into your scope focuser and provide a T-thread for the T-Ring to screw on. Please note some scope 1.25" eyepiece holder had a T-thread built-in. If this is the case, you don't need a T-Adapter.
2) T-Ring for your DSLR brand: This T-Ring will connect to your DSLR. This adapter basically convert your DSLR mount to a standard T-mount, so can screw on to the T-thread on the T-Adapter.

See below topic for some photo on this:

Have a nice day.

Hi Vil

I have a ST80 as well. St80 already has T-thread build in to the focuser. U just need a appropriate T-ring for your camera.

hi vil:
that's the correct ring. I have done some test images on distant object, but this is not my primary imaging scope. I am using as a guidescpe.

Hi Vil,

The T-Ring is not an uncommon item as it's used for purposes other than astrophotography. I think you should be able to get it from one of the main camera shops in Singapore, e.g. at Peninsula or Funan Centre.

However, do ensure that the one you get is for your brand of DSLR.
