Jupiter from the Dome

Post by chrisyeo »

Taken using dome scope, 3x barlow and toucam.

Pity that my harddisk ran out of space and was able to record only 86 good frames..

This is the best I could do with it:

Cheers,
Chris

p.s. VinSnr, you're right.. added a bit of blue to it.

for 86, that's pretty good.

There are some yellow tint from my monitor. Possible to use PS and use colour balance to cut down the yellow tint?

Umm..never mind....on my laptop, the colour looks fine. !

Really not bad for only 86 pictures.

Ending from where Chris started, trying some photos yesterday night using Toucam & registrax after tips from Chris & Vincent.

Jupiter taken using dome scope, Denk Power Switch, 3x barlow and toucam.
Auto processed by registrax (think more than 500 frames) except wavelet (over processed) using manual.

Just curious - is the scope collimated and cooled down? What time did you take the Saturn and Jupiter images?

The scope should be 85% well collimated. Yesterday was a hot day, prior to entry the dome internal temp is around 36C in the evening (with the dehumifier on it can reach 39C in a hot afternoon) With air-con on for about 1 hour, the dome temp stabilised to around 30C by 9pm. Photos were taken around 8.30-10.30pm with the air-con sometime 'off'. Videos of Jupiter/Saturn were wavering at best (likes turbulence), focusing was difficult. Still can't confirm if dome internal air circulation / cooling temp or actual 'seeing' is giving the 'wavering' effect. Although visually it is quite pleasing.

Youu used a 3x barlow... isn't the Toucam connected to the OTA directly (without the right diagonal and ep attached?)?
