"DARKADAPTED
DarkAdapted is a gamma control application program. It modifies your screen gamma settings so that you may, for example, preserve your dark adaptation while using your computer. Can turn it night vision red. (1.1MB) "

I found this free software recently and I found that it is a really useful program for those using laptops and such. Its adjustible and works very well in conjunction with my starry night planetarium software. No need to put red plexiglass in front of your laptop screen anymore ;)
More free astro software:

Oh.. I know.. I'm using an older version of starry night.
Most astro software already has night vision mode, but this one adjusts your whole laptop so you can use any program without worry.

Hi,
You can try the free Astroplanner... it got a night vision mode, which will make your laptop in deep red.
Have a nice day.
